I live in a hi-rise on 13th floor I am trying to find out what this loud vibration is because bldg management is not concerned. It only happens at night waking us.

Do you live near a train track? Is there a construction site nearby where they can only work at night between certain hours? Have you inquired with your neighbors to find out if they experience the same thing or know what it is? Is your residence located near an elevator and/or a garbage chute? Is the water pressure in your taps normal, because a water heater (probably found in the basement) will rumble the pipes.

    It only happens at night?

Go through a process of elimination.

No railroad tracks near, no night constructio. Boilers for heating water are on the roof.

Neighbors claim not to hear it except one who said he thought it was a train. “ In the walls“ There is always a sound of running water before the sound.

It could be happening when someone is very quickly shutting the water off which builds up a pressure in the water line and which will reverberate throughout the building. This can happen when there are not enough air vents in the system.

Inteteresting answer, also the water that comes from the main has to pumped up to the roof on the 22nd floor maybe a pump is causing this. Thanks

I would put a microphone on the noise source and record it for management and tell them it wakes you up nightly. If they refuse to fix it, maybe you could move to another unit?

I did that and they were still seemingly unconcerned
