What causes an intermittent loss of water pressure to shower?

Pam
by Pam
This has happened periodically over the years. The pressure suddenly lowers for a period of time and then returns just as suddenly. The diverter and shower head changes have had no effect. This weird loss and then return of water pressure to shower head keeps happening and is starting to drive us crazy. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Well or city water?

For city water there are pressure reducing valves available that should smooth out the ups and downs.

For well water you may need to adjust or replace the valve that turns the pump on and off. There should be a gauge on the system. If there is more than a 20 PSI swing it should be replaced.

Thanks for the information. We have city water so I will check into this. Thanks again.

is someone flushing the toilet or using water in another part of the house?

Thank you for suggesting this, but using water in other parts of the home doesn't effect this situation and it only happens in the 1 shower, the other is fine. Thanks again.

Nope, wish it were because that could be fixed. Thanks for suggestion.

You may have a water problem elsewhere in your home, like a toilet that keeps running or a dripping faucet, which your water pump can't keep up with.

Thanks for the tip, probably need a plumber to find it! Was hoping to avoid it, oh well!
