No - I had mine replaced with a different model & shape with no problem.
When I had to replace my toilet, I had an ADA toilet. It is higher than a regular one much better for me to use it.
Just make sure the distance from the wall to the drain pipe is ok, there are some that are made to accommodate a pipe that is too close to the wall!
you can replace with any style as long as the hole in the base of the toilet lines up with the new unit and you have sufficient space in the bathroom for the change
