When I press the handle to flush the toilet, I have to keep holding the handle down and the water flushes slowly

utube has plenty of cideos on adjusting the lift on the flapper , you may have to replace your flapper, but still a simple job..plenty videos..don’t buy the cheap ones either..

The first thing I would do is check the chain length when you are flushing it, if it is too long it will not keep it open, hence having to hold down the handle to keep the pipe open. If you have a chain to adjust, that may take care of keeping it wide open. Perhaps the inner needs to be changed while you are at it if it has been a while.

Is there a clog? Is your water pressure low? Don't use too much paper when wiping for #2 (per my plumber; and, don't use soft tissue because it does not breakdown as well as the crisper kind).

  • There are plenty of parts that could go awry and you could spend hours testing each of them, though try a few simple ones first like the chain. I had similar issues not too long ago and replaced the tank filler which solved all my problems.
