Will this faucet(the one not installed) work as a replacement?

I think that is a pot filler faucet, it will only give you one temp. Since the lever is an on/off only it won't work unless you only need either hot or cold. That's a strange setup you have there, I would be interested in seeing what type of faucet you have connected to it.

There are a lot of faucets now that have that kind of on/off knob. It should have come with directions on installing it and what parts are necessary to do the job right. If you don't have them, look up the brand, etc. on line for directions. We installed new kitchen sink, bathroom sink and tub faucets last winter and spring. Hubby new how to do it, but still needed the directions for any parts we would need that didn't come with it. He also checked the directions to see if there were any new twists to installation since the last ones we installed years ago.

I assume the three lines in picture one are the cold and hot coming in and the third is the sprayer line? Your replacement appears to have two inlet valves, although hard to tell in the picture, which would be for hot and cold. If there are two valves it would seem you can buy the extensions and hook it up to cold and hot lines yet there will be no sprayer. I believe the lever works both ways, to the left for hot and to the right for cold.

Is there any kind of hot & cold adapter that would make this work? The opening on the new faucet won't fit the water lines directly because the opening isn't wide enough.

There is no adapter that will create another source. This faucet is for hot only or cold only. And a mixer valve will cost more than a new faucet
