I have a hanging solar orb that needs the solar replaced.

The original solar circuit board is corroded. The hanger for the orb goes through the solar panel, which is on top. I cannot find a replacement. Any suggestions?

A photo would help. Don't know if it's the solar panel/circuit board, or battery housing. Most can't be replaced because they are manufactured for the orb manufacturer. Solar panels can be cleaned, rechargeable batteries usually last about a year.

Hello, maybe this might help you out

  • That’s tough. Can you find a manufacturer name on it anywhere? I wonder if eBay might have parts but likely, as William said, it was made specifically for the fixture and you could be out of luck.

    Hello,

Sadly, I think once it goes - it's gone. My Solar items don't seem to last more than a season. Maybe I should take them in from Autumn and put them out again in Summer?

Try picking up another solar item that has a similar size panel and swapping them out. Then attach the hanger elsewhere on the orb. I spray mine a couple of times a year with wet & forget outdoor to try & prevent corrosion.

Unfortunately, they're not really meant to be fixed.

Hello. I’m not too sure if there’s a way to rescue the corrosion. I have replaced the battery successful in other solar lights without the water intrusion problems.

Perhaps you can find a new unit to replace inside your orb at the garden center?

Sadly, those are not made to be replaced. Perhaps you can find a similar product to switch out the panel.

I would just buy another orb and either replace it, or use the solar panel from that. Or find the cheapest string of lights that are solar and use the panel from that so you don't have to spend a ton to replace the orb.

Can you replace it with a dollar store solar light? I've had great luck using these. They are light and bright and last at least all season maybe two seasons. https://www.homeroad.net/2022/04/diy-outdoor-solar-lights.html#more
