Call the electric companies that service your state. Our state has rates from 6c a KWH to 16C a KWH. Check the electricity EFL sheet for all the charges, some companies charge a monthly service charge others do not.

I lowered my bill by $75 a month.

Hi! Most big electric companies offer energy audits. If yours does, maybe you can schedule one. Anything that stays "warmed up" all the time, like TV's and computers use a small amount of electricity all the time. Even toasters and other small appliances can draw power when not in use. Look for energy saving settings on large appliances. Invest in a smart thermostat that only increases heat or air conditioning when needed. Help your home heat and cool more efficiently with window coverings, caulking and insulation. Check weather stripping on doors. Check for drafts. There are resources on most electric company websites for energy conservation, programs you can participate in, and rebates. Good luck and stay safe!

There are outlets and plug strips you can get that have an "off" switch so that you can turn off the power to your appliances or outlet entirely if you're not using it.

Keep in mind that turning any electric light on requires more electricity than keeping a light on over a period of time.

So, if you are trying to save electricity by turning lights on when you are not in a room, using the lamp, etc. consider how often or how frequently you are turning the same light back on again.

Similarily, it takes more electricity to preheat an oven than keeping the oven on over a period of time. If you are planning to bake, it takes less electricity over-all to bake foods together, or consecutively, rather than turning the oven off and cooling it down completely, before preheating it again to bake the next dish.
