You can spray a waterproofing product on the curtains. If you end up washing the curtains you will need to re-apply the spray.
Scotchguard makes a spray that protects fabric from water and UV rays. You can find it at Walmart and on Amazon
If you sew you can make curtains from shower curtains or outdoor fabric. Otherwise you will have to apply waterproofing. I can tell you from experience that spraying Scotchguard is a stinky job when you have a large area to cover. Also it reacts in a smelly way if it is exposed to propane heat.
You can spray the curtains with a fabric waterproofing spray.
