How to Screen French Doors... for Only $35 Each!

I just landed some new adorable kittens!
But summer hit and so did the heat. So now I need my french doors wide open, but my cats in.
But I wasn't prepared to pay hundreds for fancy roll screens, etc. So I came up with my own fix.
Using $35 premade screen doors, a simple frame was added and BAM... instant double screens for pennies.
Here's how I did it...
Two $35 premade screen doors really give my home a cabin front porch kinda feel. I love how they function and I love the look!
Skye and Lake love to sit in front of the screen... and catch bugs. :)
I didn't want to do major construction, so here's my cheat... a 2x6 was screwed into the inner framework.
The hinges were mounted to the door and 2x6. That's all it took!
Self adjusting spring hinges were used. You can adjust how tight you wish the door to slam. Worked great!
Cabinet protectors were added to make the doors thump vs. slam. The door stop on the floor was the perfect stop for the door too! (the door tops touched the top moulding... perfect!)

Wow, that is really clever and inventive! It can definitely be a pain in the summer to try to let the air in but keep the bugs out, and that is a great solution. I may have to look at that for my french doors. Thanks for sharing! http://www.faswd.com/doors/

Yes we will try this. Stumped on how to close both the French and screen doors without the French door handles getting in the way
