Are there special door hinges that can hold a hidden storage shelf?

I'm looking for a diy for the CabidorĀ® Concealable Hinge-Mounted Storage Cabinet at Bed Bath and Beyond. I have access to pallet wood for the job. Thanks!

Sounds like friction hinges are what you need.

    Good luck!

Are those in addition to the hinges for the actual door? I'm looking for hinges that will hold both the door AND the storage unit

Is there a reason the shelf has to be separate from the door? Have been building custom cabinetry and furniture for a long time. We usually just mount what we usually call a can rack right on the door itself.

Yes, refer to the pictures. We want what will be stored there out of regular view in the room.

I think you need off set hinges. Ask at the hardware store ...they can tell ya!

I'd consult a cabinetmaker or finish carpenter - these hinges are being used in an oddball way, and may, in fact, be oddball hinges.

Shopping the big-box stores, I never find the special hinges I sometimes want on the shelf -- they're often special order or found online... which means you need to know in advance how to search for them.

There's thousands of hinge designs and dozens of finishes per... and the weight they support adds to the challenge... Your time is worth something, ask a pro, this time!

thank you, you're probably right šŸ˜¬ I think I just need the mounting brackets to actually go on the hinges

I have some "invisible" ones that open when you push on the door. They work well on everything except a super heavy one that won't stay closed (after 8 years). Fortunately, the wood work master who designed & oversaw the woodwork when we built the house became a dear friend and will find a replacement for me. So they're available but you might have to find a specialist.

    They're "spring latches".

For projects such as this, a quality video would include a bill of materials and online sources. Good luck!

Sorry. Too used to seeing this general type of arrangement on a pantry door and didn't look closely enough. The hinge on the cabinet is just what might be referred to as an extension hinge. It is just sort of a wrap around that is mounted by pulling the pin from the existing door hinge, sliding a hole in the Cabridor "hinge" in place and reinserting the hinge pin. You can see a pretty good detail of how it works on Amazon. I've looked at several hardware sites I have used over the years and not found anything that works that way. It appears to be one of the ten thousand or so specialty hinges that are really nothing more than expensive ways to solve simple problems and make someone (they hope) a lot of money. You could use any of a variety of butt hinges that you could find at Home Depot or Lowes to solve this one. Mounted properly between the added cabinet and door they would be scarcely more visible than the one supplied with the Cabridor and the cabinet can be held closed with the same style magnetic catch that Cabridor uses. Again that detail is pretty visible on Amazon. Hope this helps.

I am also looking for the hinge portion of this. Any luck finding it.
