Can I do anything to my double pane windows that are white inside

I have double pane storm windows across front of my house. One has evidently leaked and now the inside of it is white, milky inside and cannot be seen through. It looks awful and its located where I really need to be able to see out. Do you have any DIY suggestions? I cannot afford a professional to replace it.

Yes, the seal is leaking and moister has gathered between the panes of glass. The only way is to remove the glass from the frame and have new ones made with new argon gas placed in them. If you wish for energy efficient or tinted, now would be to time to install this.. I personally had a pro come out and measure, remove and install the new. If any mistakes are made, he will have to make it good. Sorry, no cheat easy fix. The entire window does not have to be replaced unless new windows replacement is near the cost of replacing the glass. At least you now have options.

Bad news Kelli. There is no fix, 100% of the time the only solution is replacement. Your only hope is that you can discover the name of the manufacturer. Many of them cover seal rupture for life of the window.

We have the same problem with some of our windows... I understand that are companies that say they can repair them... but Others say that they cannot be repaired... and must be replaced. The problem is that Double Pane windows have an inert gas (like argon) between the panes to prevent the transfer of heat from on side to the other .... at some point the windows have lost the seal between the panes and the inert gas has escaped and as I understand it, there is no way to replicate the process and get a complete seal (in an at home setting). Water has gotten in between the panes and dried (like water spots on glassware) causing the milky-ness. I have heard that you can take one pane out and use vinegar to remove the deposits, and then re-install the glass pane... but the next time it rains hard against that window... you repeat the problem...

Window technology has improved (along with the prices)enough that I think we are just going to replace our window (s) one at a time.
