If I am reading this correctly there is a wall that is not cannot be removed on the opening side of the closet. My suggestion is to see if you can make another opening in the other room. The house that I grew up in had a closet like this and it had a door on the left side in one room and a right opening in the room next door, it was also an add on.
The only thing is, the other room is a bedroom ans has its own closet space and an opening to the next closet. My closet is about. 2 feet into the next room. With a wall to divide the 2.
