The door frame is not attached to the brick. it is attached the house framing. The brick is just on the surface against the framing.

More difficult than you think. I would hire out to a licensed professionals, after all it is an entrance to your home, safety is important.
When you refer to the frame I think you are referring to the trim typically called brickmolding. It's nailed to the door frame only and it's purpose is to cover the gap between the door frame and the wall structure and brick. With a bit of skill it's a relatively easy repair. You need to be able to cut mitre joints at the top corners and accurately measure and cut lengths. Brickmold is available at your local lumber yard.
