Try a yardstick and attach a rag to it that has some vinegar on it. You may need to use tape to hold rag on yardstick. Hope this will help.

70% alcohol and a clean (non fabric softener) cloth. I’ve had a cleaning business for 14 years and I only use alcohol on glass, mirrors, granite, coriander, laminate and tile!! It works great!!

I have the same problem with my a/c unit, so I cleaned the inside and outside before I put the unit back in the window for Spring, and then do the same for when I remove it for Winter. I have an old floor waxing handle that allows me to put an lint free cloth over it and wash the of the upper window with that. I believe that they are called microfiber flat mops now. However, just be sure only use it for your windows, and not on your floor too.

I had this problem but with a window pet door. I cleaned the windows and after opening the bottom for the pet door and closing it, I put a small strip of foam into the gap (one inside at top, one outside at bottom). this has kept dirt from getting inside. It has really worked.

I would take the air conditioner out if it's not too cumbersome to wash the window(s) twice a year, preferable spring and fall, and put the unit back in. Keep your inside windows cleaner by washing more often if you smoke or the window is nr. a kitchen which produces more grease and grime than other rooms.

      Hi Ginny,

unfortunately I can’t do that. When I installed it, I customize wood trim around it to simi permanently keep it more fixed….. I spoke with security people that said that window a/c are an easy way for break-ins as they could be kicked in very easily. With my wood trim, outside/inside, they could still kick in, but it would take more than 4/5 times if that. Anyway, my goal was to make it harder. Someone wants in, they get in.

      thanks
