My glass block windows get pretty drafty in the winter. Is there an easy and low cost way to insulate them besides covering in plastic?
You can use thick clear plastic and use clear packing tape to hold it down. The other thing would be put up thermal lined drapes. Can cut down to fit in your window and use a tension rod.
They make a special order corrugated plastic that insulates well. It is clear to let the light in.
Big box hardware stores carry plastic film that can be installed on the outside of your windows. It is not expensive and will help. You can also use heavy drapes, or fleece blankets with clips on the top as drapes to help with the cold. The best is to keep the cold from entering the house first.
3m makes a window cling film that you tape over the window, then shrink using a hairdryer...we used it on our single paned sunroom windows and it really blocked a lot of the drafts
You can also put shrink-wrap window film up to help with the cold. If you happen to have a basement or if your bathroom is over a garage, insulating the floor will help, too.

Take down the blind and put shrinkable window plastic over the window frame. Use a hair dryer to make it tight. Trim off the excess plastic if it needs to be neater. You can then rehang the blind. It is a little time consuming, but it can be done. You have to work around
After cleaning, you can install clear plastic draft protector. I used a tension rod to hang a small curtain In The closed position. The fabric is light so it allows light, it also looks nice. The plastic is held in place by double sided sticky tape that comes in the kit...(Home Depot) On the window trim. Follow the instructions ...very easy! I leave mine up year round.
So we had the same trouble and we used the plastic kits from Home Depot for the windows. They were super easy to use and went up quick and taut with a hairdryer. Barely noticed them, but super effective. Don't really have any quick fixes for the fireplace...sorry.
You can use plastic shrink wrap kits for the interior of your windows. They help immensely for stopping cold drafts around windows and are easy to apply. You can apply the film over the blinds and then cut a small hole with a razor knife where the blind wand is so you can attach the wand on the outside to open and close your blinds. I seal around this small hole with clear packing tape. It works! I also use heavier curtains over the windows in the winter to insulate even more. I open them during the day and close them at night when it is the coldest.
Here's some ideas for your fireplace.

You can also use bubble wrap on your windows that are cold, just moisten the glass and press the bubble wrap into place. If it comes loose, just moisten again and put it back.
Shrink wrap works very well, especially if the cold air is coming in from around the frames.
I used to live in an old and very drafty house and we have very cold winters here. We used the kits that you can buy at home improvement stores. They're easy to install and worked very well.
The window insulation kits have instructions on them. You stick on and use a hair dryer to shrink the plastic to tighten. If you don't want that expense you can purchase clear vinyl sheeting the the fabric departments. Stapling it on leaves a TON of holes in your window frame so you can use wooden frame to attach to sills with a few screw instead and staple the vinyl to that instead.
here is info for this project Abby

you can buy these type products at home depot, lowes, walmart, etc
even thru amazon
Beware if you have vinyl window frames the tape or stick em used to keep the plastic in place can stick to and damage those window frames.
You can add bubble wrap and it will stick by static if you wet it first. You can also tape it onto the window frames. It will work better than regular plastic.
Just make use of thick clear plastic with clear packing tape in order to hold it. You can also put up thermal lined drapes.
Duck brand makes a kit for this. They are available at Walmart.
Hello. Each proprietary cling product that you might purchase at your local hardware a big box store will have instructions. Here’s a link that can give you some information.

Hi Abby, this is easily accomplished, you can buy a kit for each window size, but you really only need plastic and two sided tape, tape measure, scissors & blow dryerwhich you can buy at any hardware store.. If you use a heavier plasticyou will get more insulation factor.

Use Double sided Tape to secure plastic in place. You could also use Plexiglass (Perspex) too.
Make a frame and fix plastic to the frame, then attach frame to window using double sidded tape or velcro!
