My cabinet doors will not close all the way. How would I repair them?

  • Were they always like that? Or has something changed recently? Are these kitchen cabinets? Moisture might make them swell or they are not aligned properly

  • What seems to be the problem? The hinges possibly?

Usually that means the spring mechanism in the hinges has failed. You can replace the hinges, You can also install magnetic catches on the doors and inside the cabinets.

It can be a few simple things. Not knowing what material you are dealing with I can share what I've experienced. Swollen wood can be shaved; loose screws on the hinges can be rescrewed into new foundation even if you just fill the old hole and then screw. Metal doors can be bent slightly. If you are not interested in replacing the doors, don't be afraid to reconfigure the original ones. And sometimes, just changing the hardware will solve your problem.

Over time opening and closing doors causes the hinges to get loose. Slightly loose the screws push the door in and retighten thescrews.

You need new hinges. Also, add adhesive dots to the inside of the door to relieve the stress on the spring mechanisms.

Find where the cabinet surfaces are touching and shave down with a coarse nail file, or sharp knife. Don't cut with a knife, just sorta whittle it or shave gently. One shaved down, rub all edges with a bar soap, like Castiel bar soap.

Sometimes screws need tightening or loosened a tiny bit because of swelling. If they seem to work fine, add magnets like someone else suggested.
