In order to upgrade our kitchen my husband bought new doors in Ikea. The doors proved to be slightly smaller than the original doors. We could not change the doors as my husband had drilled into them for the handles etc, Now we have doors that are beautiful but just don't fit lengthwise, Any suggestions or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

  • Oh dear, that is what happens when you do not measure first. Hubby's heart was in the right place. Could you post a photo or two, so we can see what they look like in order to help you better?

First of all you do not mention how big of gap you need to cover. However, the first thing I would try would be to find a nice piece of wood that matches the cupboard material and glue that into the top. If needed you could reinforce the trim piece with a metal bracket behin d.

About all you can do is to cut a new piece of wood to fill in the gap lengthwise and attach it to the original cabinet box. OR you may need to start over and purchase larger doors, OR you could extend the doors by creating a shallow trim board on each side to make it look intnentional & decorative.
