Trap door to crawl space is collapsed. Shoddy workmanship. :-(

I bought a condo in 2016 and replaced all flooring. The flooring company contracted someone to "repair" the trap door to the crawl space for a pretty high price. The hinges have already separated and the door sags terribly when stepped on. A serviceman used the door and pointed out that the hinges were attached with 3/4" nails - like finishing nails. Help!

I think I would construct a new heavier door with bottom braces to hold it in place and a give you a solid base to place the hinges with screws.

Why would you let a flooring company (I assume carpet/tile company) do ANY carpentry? I'd make sure anyone needing to know gets the message they are out of their league! (Website review)

They sub-contracted, and it delayed the whole project. The flooring company is locally owned and a good brand. From other comments here, I feel confident that they will try to make this right. Thanks.

If the door is in bad shape use it as a template to make a new door and use screws to attach the hinges. If it's in good condition just use screws to reattach the hinges. Also check the condition of the frame the door sits on when it's closed.

Get back with the flooring company that sub contracted the job out and tell them what has happened and you need them to have that person to repair it the right way, as it is dangerous and falling apart. It also tarnishes the flooring companies reputation because they were the ones that subcontracted it out and the person did an unsatisfactory job.

You need to contact them asap. If you wait, they may say that it has been to long and it is your problem. Obviously it wasn't done properly. Finishing nails will not hold anything for long and it could collapse and someone could get seriously injured.
