Minwax makes a wood hardener to use in rotted wood, then you can fill with wood putty and sand then paint. Scrape out any loose pieces first. Very easy project. I had to do this to the base molding on my front door
Dig out the rotted wood. Fill with Bondo, auto body filler. Sand, prime, and paint.
