My neighbor turned her storage building into a craft room. She has a window A/C installed. In the winter and when it is turned off, the outside noise flows right through it. What can be used (inside) to muffle the noise. NOTE: She cannot remove the A/C. Thanks!

Make sure the vents are closed and put a cover over the unit.

Maybe get some foam sheets and cover the ac with that.

Buy some insulation board a build something to fit from the wall and all around it. Not only is the noise coming through, but also the cold air comes through as well. Ask in the insulation dept. what will work to hold it all together. Best of luck!

  • Make a cover for it. Either sew a quilt type as the batting will muffle the noise or build a box and line with quilt batting.

They sell plastic covers for the part of the window air conditioner that is outside. Perhaps you could insulate the inside of it and put it on. On the inside of the store room, I would also go with Naomie's suggestion of covering it for more noise insulation.

The vents are closed and there is a cover over the outside unit but it does not help.
