What to do with a storm door that the finish is coming off?

I have a storm door that the finish is coming off around the handle area and there are spots on the door that have become real rough.

I have been searching around for ideas for my front door, including my storm door, and so many people have just painted their storm doors, sometimes to match the main door. I imagine if you sanded it down well and primed it you could paint the storm door and make it look nice and fresh. One blogger used Glidden Grey Gripper primer and chose Behr premium Plus Ultra paint and primer for the new paint finish. I imagine there are other good ones out there, also.
What is the door made of?
This depends on the finish. Is it metal? Then I would clean it with a scouring pad, and then apply a metal coat of finish to it. Do it in a shaded area, and put on evenly. Enjoy, and have a lovely day.
