Hi. I have a floating staircase. I know it’s come back in fashion but looking for a change. How do I close it off. Also do I do anything on the underside , once closed?

Hi Sabrina, personally, I would not close up these stairs. I would change out the carpet to a patterned carpet and paint the railings a light tone of beige. Or if the wood is good underneath the carpet, I would stain them a teak color and still paint the railing. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply.

I thought of changing the carpet on the stairs and hallway. Problem is, the carpet is still good in the bedrooms. Would it look tacky if I just changed it on the stairway and hallway and not the bedrooms?

Not at all. Go for it! Happy Decorating!

I would get rid of the carpet all together and go with the darker scraped wood to match the railing. Its a beautiful staircase, be a shame to close it in.

Hi, it would look fine. It's done all the time.

    Hello Sabrina.

Fix either Hardboard or MDF to the back side of the stairs (making any joints actually on the back of the wooden stain and not in between because you would see the joint when looking up the stairs.
