Aren't they already distressed with all the traffic? 😉The only way i know of to slip proof stairs is with a carpet or carpet runner. Can use indoor/outdoor thin carpet with a pattern to hide wear and dirt. All the other products that make stairs slip resistant kinda looks bad for interior steps. Like sand, non slip strips, etc. Plus is very hard to clean. I hope someone else has a better answer .
Are they indoor or outdoor stairs? As for the distressing, It sounds like that will happen naturally with all the traffic you described. As for the slip proof, something like this might work for outdoor stairs.

And for indoor, maybe something like this (I would tack them down)
