How can I stop a carpet runner from sliding and bunching?

I put a runner from my porch door to my kitchen door to protect the carpet but the runner bunches up a little with each step. I tried the non slip pad underneath and even put large binder clips to secure it at one end but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Yes. Carpet doesn't like carpet. It is strongly recommended to never put a rug on a rug. Will actually ruin the the carpet underneath from the friction and impressions made by walking on it. Best solution is replace the carpet with a hard surface like wood, vinyl or tile or ditch the throw rug.

You can buy backings for rugs at many home improvement stores and even Walmart to put on the back of the rug that will keep it from moving.

I once bought two square floor tiles and cut them on the diagonal and gloed them to each corner. the weight helped to keep the runner in place.

I have never found anything that will keep rugs from sliding on top of other rugs, but high quality heavy thick rubber backed rugs seem to do better. They will "walk" across carpet, but they don't bunch up like your picture shows. Your best bet is probably to put a floor mat on your porch. Find a janitorial supply place and buy an entrance mat from them that is designed for commercial use. I use these. They last for years (I have never had to replace one.) and do a much better job of collecting dirt before it enters your house.

Solution I have used is to use finish nails to secure runners on carpeting. On the ends and every twelve inches on the sides. Don't nail down all the way. They need to be bent over the edges of the runner.

Contact cement brush it on around the edges and it will gripe with he carpet.
