What do you do to make this wood look better on my stairs?

All the natural wood work looks bad all the way up my stairway. What would you do to make the look nicer? Should I redo all the wood work or paint it?

From what I am seeing none of the scratches look to deep. if you do not want to sand it to bar wood you can try Ol' English dark polish it will make the scratches darker and put moisture into the wood, be careful of your carpet it will stain it too. try o a small area first to check the results

Try Old English Scratch Remover furniture polish first. If that doesn't do the trick, use some dark stain applied with a rag. Be sure to wear rubber gloves and protect your carpet.

dark gel stain...Maybe fill the scratched parts 1st and let dry, then do the whole step...
