There are special products for these situations that will match your flooring. Check where you purchased your flooring or go to the flooring store.
Lowe's or Home Depot will have what you need.
What kind of flooring? Thickness?
Google "endcap for flooring at top of stairs" and see those special pieces for this use.

You can find thresholds at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. They come in metals, wood, etc. They will help you
There are usually caps available for the flooring. If not you could see if there is a cap that would match your stairs
It can be a tripping hazard, there are actually codes of sort in finishing them. I owned several flooring stores, can you tell me what type of material you are using...is it carpet or vinyl or hardwood. It does make a difference
