Stained Carpet on Curved Staircase
I need to remove the old carpet and was quoted $10,000 to hardwood. Any suggestions of what else I can do besides carpet again?
You never know what you will find under that carpet. Be prepared to fill in nail holes, stap!e holes and gouges. It can be done, just don't expect smooth beautiful wood. We ended up buying new stair treads and installing them.
Carpet will have a million staples that need to be removed. Use a staple puller for upholstery and gloves.
If your treads are decent, you can fill the holes and stain or paint them. If the treads are ugly, you need new ones. Sometimes, even bare stairs are better than carpeted stairs. Ours looked like a poodle, so even though the stairs are bare and ugly, it's still better than the carpet.
You can sand the wood, if it's in decent condition. You can purchase replacement treads.
