I am not sure what it would look like but they have stuff that you put on like firetruck steps for example, or maybe rino guard for truck liners, you would have to research it. You might be able to add paint for different colors, and I do not know if it would adhere to your steps. Or you can get paint with sand already in it for non skid or just carpet. Thats all I got, lol I hope it helped you out.

There are strips that you can put on the stair to prevent you from slipping, similar to the ones you ca put in a bath tub for the same purpose. I have seen them in black. Maybe they have other colors too. Ask at Home Depot.

They have adhesive non-slip strips in the stores. Check around.

I have used the black non-skid tape (1" wide) from IKEA. They work very well and were the least expensive that I could find. I mounted them across the entire step about 1" from the edge. Not sure what color stain you have but if it is light this would stand out so make sure you put them exactly in the same position on each step....then it would look like a pattern/design on the step...maybe? The work well, have had them on for 5 years.

Go to the hardware store or store like Lowe's or Home Depot and ask for anti-slip tape for the stairs. You could put one or two strips on each step.

You could also put stair treads on the stairs. They come in both a rubber form and carpet. Some of the carpet types are quite attractive. They fit on the stair with some of the wood exposed on each side.

There's paint with sand in it. Make sure you have a handrail, and NEVER Pledge the stairs when dusting them.

@Ann The sand added to wet paint also works on the wooden porch/deck boards and prevents them getting slick in the rain. I used sand on the porch in winter when it got covered in ice to add traction.
