Where should I have a carpet remnant bound for an area rug?

I'm looking for the most reliable, inexpensive place in metro Atlanta to make a carpet remnant into an area rug. Should I try to do it myself? If I put the carpet/area rug on a laminate floor will it discolor or harm the floor?

Since I don't live in your area I can't recommend a specific business to you but I can suggest you check with some "mom and pop" type carpet/flooring stores (rather than the major chain carpet retailers) for their recommendation. Some of the smaller, locally owned flooring dealers may offer this service. Regarding discoloring or harm to the floor... if the room gets a lot of natural light, in time you may (or may not) notice the sun will have slightly faded the flooring not covered by rugs but rugs themselves over laminate should not harm the laminate. One other thing to consider... depending on the size and weight of the rug(s), and the type of backing, you may also need to use rug pads underneath the rugs to keep them from slipping and sliding on laminate.

From my experience the big box stores like HD or Lowe's are the best price If you have a local ma and pa flooring shop - try them and compare the price.

Sherry......Contact The Wright Touch on Chamblee-Tucker Rd, Doraville. Their business is cutting and finishing carpet for most carpet companies in metro Atlanta. They should take care of your needs.Sorry, but I don't know anyone on the west side of town. Good Luck...Gary PS: HD and Lowes do not provide this service, especially if they didn't sell the product.

I did this in my dining room and though it may not be a lot cheaper I was able to get the exact size I needed, I purchased a remanent at a local carpet center (not a large center) and they sent it out for me and delivered it at no extra charge

LOWES in Illinois stores carry a do it yourself peel n stick binding in rug dept..I used a red to finish a lowes runner for my upstairs hall. Sticks great but you could tack down(sew) the corners .

I don't know about the binding. I never looked for someone to do it. But maybe someone at Home Depot can suggest where to go for this service. But buy the non-slip backing for the area rug, so it won't slide away.

I just had this done in April, in Ohio. I wanted a rug for my living room and a hallway runner to match. I went to a locally owned carpet store, picked the exact carpeting I wanted, gave them the exact dimensions I wanted, they ordered it, cut it to the sizes I wanted when it came in, then they sent it out to be bound ($1.39 per linear foot). When it was done they delivered it free and rolled them out for me. They were perfect and I was able to move them and use them in my new house in Kansas now.

If the home improvement stores don't help you with the binding, a furniture upholsterer could possibly do it. They have the thick needles and such to work with.
