Back2School Teacher Gift Ideas for Keychains or Lip Balm W Free Tags!

Hello friends! Summer is just about over, and that means it’s time to head back to school. As I’ve mentioned over the years, I always like to bring a little gift on meet the teacher night. For us, we meet them a day and a half before the kids officially start school. Since I don’t yet know the teachers, not even their names until we arrive, I like to get something neutral that anyone can use. This year I made super easy keychain lip balm holders and fabric key fob keychains. Today I’m sharing a free printable teacher gift tag (actually 7 of them!) to use on keychains or lip balms. I’ve got two different designs and many color options to choose from. I'm also sharing how to assemble your gift in an adorable way, letting the teachers know you care! Enjoy!

Update: I ended up customizing the key fobs with the teacher’s monogram and making felt gift envelopes to place them in. The gifts ended up being so, so adorable! Don’t miss the tutorial for the envelopes and gift packaging that I’ll be sharing on Monday. Follow me on social media (@LifeasaLEOWife) and via email so that you never miss a new idea!

Keychain Gift Tag Files

Note: I'm sharing this post straight from my blog. When bringing posts from other sites here to Hometalk, certain coding doesn't transfer with the other code that makes up the post. Files are some of that coding, so if you'd like to download any of the free printable files you see below, please head over to my blog (link in bio, then search for teacher gift and scroll down to the title " Back to School Teacher’s Gift Idea: Keychain & Free Printable & Cut File Gift Tags!") where you can download and print any or all of these designs. For FREE! I also share many, many other free printables as well as cut files like SVGs and PNGs, so be sure to follow me so you don't miss them! The rest of this post is shared from my blog, so ignore the download instructions until you get to the blog since the files and download buttons won't be showing on this transferred copy. Can't wait to see you there! Keep reading for the teacher gift idea and cute assembly instructions.

For personal use only!

This design is for personal use only, not commercial use. If you’d like to share it with friends or family, feel free to use the buttons at the end of the post to share it with them on social media or send them straight to the blog. This helps me to keep these free printables, PNGs, & SVGs coming to you for free! Also, the preview image of the design has my logo overlaid on them. That will not show up on your downloaded file. It is there to keep anyone from stealing and printing them straight from Google without coming here. Thanks y’all!

The first set of free printable gift tags that I made are for keychain teacher gifts. You can put them on a keychain you purchased, one your made (like I did), or on the chapstick holder keychain that I showed you how to make earlier this week. I made my set black with gray for the normal metal part of the key. That was mostly to match the fabric that I used in making the key fob keychains. I made a couple of other colors so hopefully there will be one that works for your style keychain. I placed three sets (two keys make one gift tag) on each page because my son usually has more than one teacher. Print as many as you need for the number of teachers your child has.

Lip Balm Tags

You can use these gift tags on any kind of lip balm, whether they’re in a keychain holder or not. My favorite is Vaseline Lip Therapy. I mean that stuff is a miracle in a little tin. The best is the Pink Bubbly Edition, but I haven’t been able to find it in a while. I’m getting really low on it, so I know soon I’ll be going through withdrawals lol. The regular kind works great, but I love the scent and tiny bit of sparkling Moscato/Rosé taste of the bubbly. Another good option is EOS. I like the clear one as it’s not as waxy as the others are.

I created several different colors in these round gift tags with scalloped edges. Here’s the black version.

And a multicolor page.

Finally, cream with black writing. I wanted to do just black and white to save ink, but you obviously wouldn’t have been able to see the tags to cut them. Hopefully this saves a little ink.

Assemble the Teacher’s Gift & Tags

You can upload the files for the gift tags to your cutting machine software and use the print then cut option if you’d like your machine to cut them for you. I just cut the pieces out with scissors.

You’ll need to cut out the coordinating piece next because they’ll be glued back to back. You’ll see that there are three keys with the teeth facing one way and three others facing the opposite direction. If they were all the same, they wouldn’t be lined up when both front sides are facing out.

The “Here’s the key to a great year” and “Your teaching is the key to my success!” keys go with the “I’m glad you’re my teacher,” keys. Cut those out and glue them back to back with a regular glue stick.

Poke a small hole in the top center of the tag. I used a pin then widened it just a little with the end of a BBQ skewer I had nearby.

Feed ribbon or twine through the hole and tie it around the keyring on the keychain. I tied a cute tiny bow to hide the hole.

Repeat the same process to use the lip balm tags. Cut them out, glue them back to back and tie them around the chapstick package with a bow. You could also place the package in a cellophane bag with some shredded paper under it and tie the tag around the bag. That will make the gift look even more adorable. Another option is to make a DIY gift box with cardstock paper, like the one I shared in this post.

Valentine’s Day teachers gift: 3 boxes made of Valentine’s Day print cardstock with ribbon tied around them and a gift tag that says “You’re the BOMB! Happy Valentine’s Day!” Each box contains tissue paper and a bath bomb.

All that’s left to do is send your little one off to school to hopefully score some brownie points with his new teacher, ha!

Just kidding. I send gifts to let my son's teachers know how much I appreciate them. I had a mom and grandmother who were teachers so I know all that goes into it!

I’m in the process of making another key fob keychain for his other teachers. I also have several lip balm holders that I’m going to give to the teachers of his enrichment classes like library, art, music, etc. Here’s one of my back to school teacher’s gifts. I haven't yet assembled my lip balm gifts, but I'll update this when I do. Also- keep reading for more teacher’s gift ideas and free printables!
