I would like to do a back splash, but can't decide if I should take the 6" tile that is there off, or start at the top of the tile. thinking I might do a similar tile to the accent inset.

I would definitely remove the existing tile. By doing so you would have a clean slate to work with.

I would add to it with something that compliments the tile. Removing the tile is a big pain and would only do that if I couldn’t find something I like to go with it.

Do you LOVE that tile? If you don’t love it - tear it off and start fresh with one that you do. :)

I was watching YOU TUBE yesterday and they had great how to do videos on putting up tile for a job like yours. Just type in what you want to do in your browser like: how to tile a back splash on "you tube". several videos will come up for you to watch. They will explain every thing you need to do. From what I watched, you should be able to make a choice on your own. I love YOU TUBE for advice.

Or you could do a stencil which I did and everyone thinks it’s tile then if you want to change it up it’s easy
