Sometimes you can change the focus of the color with different color accessories in the room. It may also be cheaper to pain a complimentary color than to remove and replace the tile.

Thank you that might be a good alternative. The way it is just breaks up my color scheme for the rest of the condo.

Is it tile? If yes you can paint with tile paint, or cover with something like the decorative panels that look like old tin ceilings from Home Depot. You can also glue on bead board over the tile and paint any color you want. A 4 x 8 foot sheet is less than $20. You just cut and glue on tile with Loctite adhesive. You can also tile on tile if you want the expense. Paint with Eco Prim then add another layer of tile on top of the tile. Eco Prim dries with a cement like texture that gives you a base to add new tile on top of the old tile.

  • Before you start this task, expect to replace the backer that you adhered the tile to, wether it is the sheetrock or a cement board. Start at an edge, use a pry bar and hammer (tapping the top of the pry bar with a flat edge behind the tile) to pop a couple tiles off. The level of difficulty depends on how long it has been installed and the adhesive you used. I would not recommend using a hammer to break the tiles first. Remember to flip the electrical breaker if you will be working around electrical outlets.

All you have to do is use a putty knife and a hammer to chip it off.
