Is the room square? Does it have true right angled corners? Pick the long dimension and lay down a chalk line for your first "edge". Make sure the sub-floor is level and treated as per the vinyl tile instructions.
You need to start from the center out so any cut tiles will be even against the walls. If you start from one wall towards the opposite wall you may end up with a sliver of a cut tile. Would look odd. Dry fit the tiles across the floor from one wall to the opposing wall. Move the tiles so cut tiles will be even against both walls. Then do the same with the other two walls. Now you have a center point where to start tiling and any cut tiles will look even and correct.
Measure the room and the tiles, divide the room size by the tile size to figure out how many tiles it will take across both ways; if it is not an exact (don't think it will be) decide how much you are going to have to cut off and where you want that partial tile; then start in a corner that you don't want a cut tile.
thank you so much sarah...will do!
I learned this from an old carpenter that my father knew.
