Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do 'to it' without first obtaining the written permission of the landlord. Your best intentions to enhance the appearance of the rental unit might backfire, causing you to not only lose your damage deposit, but to be fined for making unauthorized changes to the decor.
You did not say what room the tile is in. Have you considered perhaps putting an area carpet over the space?
have you gotten permission to do anything?
If it doesn’t block your doors from opening, you could buy carpet squares. They’re usually about 24” square, and there are lots of choices. They’re heavy enough to stay in place with normal wear. Worse comes to worse, you can “cut out” for door swing - many people have a bit of tile at their immediate entrance.
Google “carpet squares” to see the style and color choices available. Not ridiculously expensive.
I saw 24” carpet squares at dollar tree. Very surprised to see them and they were decent colors. But if carpet is not what you had in mind, reply with more detail about what you are trying to accomplish and what room. Hope that helps.
