How do I lay 10x10 ceramic tile on my concrete patio?

I would like to try putting 10 br 10 squares of porcelain tiles on top of my patio that is covered with concrete. Can it be done and how? Also my husband started building a shed in our big bare backyard and he did an ok job but that was before hurricane Katrina and he still doesn’t have a roof on it! I don’t know if he is afraid of doing it wrong or what. When we bought this house in 2003, I had this vision of having a nice pool and a deck over my tiled patio and we have 3 bedroom windows in our bedroom upstairs and we wanted to make the windows into French doors leading out to our deck that looks over a bunch of trees and a railroad track. Then I imagined a slide from our deck going down into our cool pool! With lots of a plush amount of landscaping with lights and cool furniture with big umbrellas with lights inside the umbrellas, etc. We could have one heck of a party back in our yard. See, we live on a cul-de-sac and our house is in the middle and we always have parties on the cup-de-sac. But I dreamed that our backyard would look like this but my mom never got to see the house cause she died of cancer right before we could move into the house. So she never even got to come look at it. My heart was so broken and he kept telling me he would work on it to cheer me up but I only have a half built shed with no roof. Sometimes I have to later h have to laugh about it cause I don’t know what else to do!! Does anybody have any ideas about what could be done to my poor big backyard? I love doing things like refinishing furniture and I’v done other jobs in the DIY department.?

    Hi Tami,

Make yourself a list of the things you want in your garden or yard, then draw a plan of the area (To scale if poss.) then try to draw in any trees etc. you have and then draw in the things you would like to have , where you would like to have them. Next set about adding those features one by one, till you have what you were looking to have. If all of that seems too much, call in a Garden designer, and get them to give you a plan of the garden with all you want included, and ask for a planting plan, if you require planting areas. A Garden Designer or Garden Architect can provide just the plans and planting List or arrange to get the whole job done for you if you wish. or only part of it, leaving you to complete the rest.....................Enjoy the process........

I do not understand the above answer at all. Yes you can lay tile on concrete, like you would lay it indoors. I would not suggest it. The surface would be too slippery for outdoors. I would consider stenciling it with paint and a large stencil and coating it with a good sealer.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I will definitely look into it.

I concur. Johnavallance is not an answer but a statement about something totally different. There are specific type of tiles for outdoor use. Antything else would not hold up and can be a hazard.
