Peel and stick tile or traditional

I want to replace tile backsplash in my kitchen and see peel and stick tile. Can you explain the benefits and drawbacks to peel and stick versus using traditional tile. Also how do I go about prepping surface after removing tile. I assume all mortar needs to be removed no matter what type of tile I use. Thanks for your help.

The biggest draw back is that eventually the tile might become loose. You clean too hard, or house it too warm or it gets too wet. I have used it as a back splash for behind my stove. It worked well, and was a bit of work to get them off, but that is the only drawbacks I could think of. With the peel and stick you don't have to have it grouted.
We looked at Peel & stick tiles for our backsplash and we read the reviews and they said it had fallen off & once you apply it it is stuck but good, some have used a spatula that came with the tiles & someone said that some of the wall came off as well,a a lot of people were happy with it. so read the reviews before you purchase anything. Then you can make your decision. We decided against it for a couple of reasons, I have a small galley kitchen & our appliances were 17-20+ years old, so we are getting all new appliances. We found out later that the microwave over the range wouldn't fit & I would only have about 5" to put a backsplash in. We will send the Microwave back unopened. I will paint the backsplash over the sink.
