I have been told by some to use extra adhesive and others not to. Anybody had experience with this? What about using transfer tape? Thanks

Where are you putting the peel and stick tiles?

  • Emily Emily on May 24, 2018

Old peel and stick is easy to remove. Just use an old iron and heat the tile by putting a cloth and the iron on it for a minute or two. No adhesive is needed for peel and stick tiles. Other than what is on the back of the tile.

Ok so I get someone to remove it and put new tile on stick stuff left from old tile? There is old linoleum under the old peel and stick and concrete under that. I'm looking for a cheap easy way to do this on a fixed income. Thanks

If you want a professional look, take up the old tile. If you cover the old tiles they might crack, then your new tiles on top will crack also. Think this out, before you do this project.

In my experience, peel and stick tiles stick to anything, including your fingers! Even if they seem a little loose at first, once you start walking on them, they adhere very, very well. I am sure there wouldn't be a problem with them sticking to the old tile. Whether or not it's a good idea is another question. I've only used them on bare wood and concrete.

      Thanks Brenda

Well we did this ourselves, unless age or health prevents doing the work, it is a very easy job. The new peel and stick tiles have adhesive on the back When the old tiles are removed, because they have been heated the adhesive on them will come off with the tiles.

Ok Emily I took one tile up and there is a lot of sticky residue on linoleum floor. Do I leave or there and put new peel and stick tile over it. Or do i remove the residue and if so what shouldct I use? Thanks

    Walls or floor?

  • B. Enne B. Enne on May 27, 2018

I have done this 3 times. The first 2 times I used a leveling compound to fill the pattern so it would not bleed through the top tiles. It also helped the tiles stick on.

The last time I went directly on top. Some of the tiles "migrated" in front of the toilet, and the bathroom vanity. I think it is from leaning and sliding feet. I removed those tiles with a haridryer, and then restuck them with construction adhesive. That was quite a few years ago, and they are still stuck in place. One seam opened a tiny bit, but doesn't really show.

use a wooden rolling pin to make sure they're flat

  • Dee Dee on May 27, 2018

You can tile over old flooring as long as it is secure. You do not need any extra glue.

    Hello Pat,

Yes, but don't lay them directly over the same size tile!

If the floor is super clean, then this should work.
