Children's Church Surprise

Well, if you have viewed any of my work, you have come to know that I am big on surprises. So, we decided since our Children’s Church Pastor was heading out of town for two weeks, we would revamp a much needed Children Church. Our Children’s Pastor deserved the makeover and it was well overdue.
Before
The average life span of a paid Children’s Pastor is about 1.5 years. Our unpaid Children’s Pastor has been with us for just shy of 13 years. With that motivation we went to work.
Before
I delegated as much as I could, but left the stage design and building to myself. I’m picky.
Before
I must admit we bit off more than we could chew. Two weeks and this is what we had before us:
Before
-Walls were old paneling. They needed to be drywalled, primed and painted.
Construction
-Floor had very old tiles that needed updating. We removed and painted the floor.
Construction
-Lighting needed to be redone. The room was known for its dungeon-like feel. All fluorescents were removed and new recessed can lights put in place. All electrical required rewiring.
Construction
-The room had no restroom; however, an outdated restroom existed on the other side of a block wall. A Door was cut out and new bathroom installed. The bathroom required complete replumbing.
Construction
-The room had no audio, video or stage lighting. A recess was cut in the ceiling and 6 stage can lights installed along with black lighting for puppet ministry. Two new 42” TV’s and full audio was installed.
After
-Stage was 95% recycled material. As you can see in pictures plywood was gathered from various locations including an unwanted sign. The stage believe it or not was the cheapest build and was only about $100 in cost for paint and hardware.
After
In the end our church volunteers put in over 400 collective man hours into trying to finish the room in a two week period.

I must say, when our Children’s Pastor arrived back on that first Sunday morning she had no clue and was overwhelmed.

Thanks to all my brothers and sisters at Christian Fellowship for the blood, sweat and mostly tears. Get ready for the youth room. LOL
