Bookcase Headboard to Hall Table
If you still plan to use it as a headboard, or even as a shelf later, I would chalk paint it
I would make a wallmounted drop desk maybe. Cut legs off footboard and hinge mount it to headboard. Refinish and mount on smallspace wall for storage, desk, or even eating are with dish storage/display.

Yes you can cut off the side legs, install lighting behind the front bottom board and have a nice storage wall shelf with mood lighting.
Turn it into a shelf with a great saying stenciled on the board under the shelf.
I would cut off the legs, paint with milk paint, glue cork board to the flat surface, stand it up and use decorative baskets in the shelf areas. I would use the legs to give it a little more height if used for adult purposes or just stand up for maybe a child's display area.
Use horizontally/vertically for shelving after taking off the legs. Can trim some of the lower part of the headboard if you want. Bookshelf for kids room, storage for kitchen/bath. Mount in utility/mud room; add some hooks for a coat rack.
I have two of these in use in my house. One is behind my couch....as a way to store books etc. and the top has a few ornaments and a lamp on it. The other is in my bathroom...fits over top of the cat box and gives me a bit more storage space in there.
Paint it or paint and contact paper. Make chalk paint with paint plaster Paris and a little water. Seal with polycrylic
