Just Google! There are many places that accept odd items. Check with your trash service. Where I live, every 3 months they have clean up days where you can drop off batteries, old computers, cell phones, paint, etc., for free. Here are some other sources to find locations in your area!

Many Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, Best Buy stores and others have programs too, check to see what they might offer where you live.
Comunities usually have recycling programs several times a year. Contact your local government office for assistance.
There are likely mail in recycling places. Energizer offers this link: http://www.energizer.com/responsibility/battery-recycling/where-to-recycle-batteries Turns out, from what I'm reading, most cities don't recycle them anymore as they no longer contain mercury or hazardous materials. I'm surprised too!
batteries contain a higher acid count, and over time will leak Battery acid. It’s just what they do. Some where there is a place to take them. I don’t know if you have a dedicated battery store near you..but they will usually take them. Make some calls, some big box diy will also take them.
Hi Marc, congratulations for recycling batteries! That is great for you to take the time and effort. We have a battery donation in our community once or twice a year, but if you call your local stores that sell them, they may know where you can take them. Here is a link that might help: http://www.energizer.com/responsibility/battery-recycling/where-to-recycle-batteries
Thanks for all the tips! Yes, I never thought of it, but batteries are definitely prone to leaking over time... best to recycle instead of doing a project with them! ☺
Call2Recycle offers a network of over 34,000 local recycling centers and drop-off locations for rechargeable batteries, including local municipalities and national retailers such as Best Buy, The Home Depot, Staples and Lowe's.
Duracell's website says: “Alkaline batteries can be safely disposed of with normal household waste.” Energizer confirms that regular batteries are fine to toss in the trash, but says rechargeable batteries should be recycled according to US federal guidelines.
