Empty coffee cans

Cover them with jute, put wallpaper on them, great for teachers gifts, put a kitchen design on them with a pen, notepad, recipe cards, small wisk and spatula, anything you can put in there that is small. You can also paint them and put your pots in there so when you water the excess will flow into the cans.

i screwed mine together and got a board for the top and bottom I padded and covered the top after cutting the boards to match the cans. Makes for a great foot stool

One thing that is fun to do especially with the kids or grandkids is to wrap the can with yarn (I used red) and the slip our christmas cards through the yarn and the can is put on the coffee table for decoration and it's fun to look at all the cards in that way.

I use mine for painting and stripping furniture.

Scrap book paper, wrapping paper, fabric, contact paper or paint! Here is what I did with some tin cans.

i have used the cans for storing lot of little things.. buttons salvaged from old shirts, fishing kit - replacement line, bobbers, hooks, sinkers, diy cookie kit each dry ingredient measured out in zip lock bags with instructions.

Put concrete in it, before it dries, place a large eye hook in middle of concrete, let it dry and you can use it to tie down your canopy, tent or other items that you don't want blowing away.

Wrap can and fill with homemade snack mix, candy, cookies, granola, trail mix, cocoa mix, popped corn, anything suitable for a holiday gift. Top lid with a bow.

The above HomeTalkers took some of my ideas. Also, we use them when camping or for our emergency home box (power outages, etc.) to make/store firestarters (dryer lint, pine cones, small pieces of fat wood, etc.). These hold emergency candles/matches in both the camping gear and emergency box. My scouts have used these to cook meals over while camping (use an old can opener on the closed side...tin punch a square out of one side of the open end so small wood pieces or homemade sterno can be inserted). My scouts have made small gift "holders" for our local homeless mission (store small personal size toiletries). Really the sky is the limit! (Of course, all cans were decorated accordingly.
