How can charcoal be made useful after it has filtered water?

    If it has filtered only a few gallons of water, could it still be used for that? Charcoal can filter a lot of water before it is used up and needs to be replaced. We have an RO water filter that we use for cleaning water for the salt water fish tanks (85 gal., 125 gal., and 150gal.) and it lasted a year before the cartridge needed to be replaced. The tanks and sumps are topped off a couple of times a week. If you have fresh water fish tanks that use charcoal in the filters you could probably use it after a good rinsing in the filters for a while. You could also as suggested, use it in your flower pots.
