How do I repurpose a broken full body size mirror?

A friend has a broken full size mirror that sentimental, only the top 6-8 inches is shattered. Wanted to redo it somehow so it's not trashed

Take it to a glass cutter and they can cut the mirror straight.
Although purchasing a custom-cut piece of glass to replace the existing one may be an option, I can not see it as being cost effective.
What about placing some decals 'strategically' over the damaged portions at the top?

Make it look like a stained glass section at the top where it's broken. Either cut a straight line or draw on a straight line with dimensional paint like is used to fake stained glass. Fill the broken area with pieces of mirror and pieces of colored glass to form some sort of attractive mosaic pattern. Use mirror mastic to secure mirror pieces and something like E6000 glue to secure colored glass pieces. Once the adhesives have had time to dry, fill in any gaps with either colored caulk or unsanded grout. Then put a good self-leveling, non-yellowing sealant/finish over the section you have transformed to protect fingers from getting cut on any sharp edges. (A car clear coat would likely work well, but would be stinky and expensive, so buy as small a container as possible and do it in a well-ventilated area.)
