You can paint or cover with contact paper and then use for a multitude of uses. I would stay away from canisters unless you are putting something inside that isn't going to be interfered with the coffee smell.
I use mine when I am redoing furniture. The metal cans are better for stripper, but, I have used a plastic one with Citristrip. They also are great for storage of steel wool and small tools.
