How can I make old Lamp Shades into something else?
I don't want to use my old lamp shades for a lamp. Any ideas on what I can turn them into?
You could get really creative with this!
First, if the opening in the globes is large, I'd recommend covering it to reduce wobble. Maybe a small piece of wood glued over the opening? Next, you'll need something for the trunk/stem. I've used dowel rods for faux topiary trunks. Just make sure you get one a size that will compliment the size of your globe. If you want to make them look a little more authentic, you could glue a small rope along the rod in a winding fashion. Once it's dry, then paint it so that it looks like a natural vine winding around the rod. That way you won't just have that smooth, stark rod.
For the globe: I'd first paint it with a dark green spray paint. You'd probably be happier doing this before attaching the dowel rod. :) Then find some faux greenery (boxwood is great) and glue it onto the globe.
Finally, you'll need a pot. Find one that's deep enough to give good visual balance. You could use a little cement to secure the rods into the pot. Once it's dry, cover with some Spanish moss.
Sounds like a fun project! Here's some small ones I made once. I fashioned these ideas around the ones I made, but I really LOVE your idea to use old globes! Best wishes on your project.

You will need silicone or E6000 to adhere your glass items together. You'll need to get a collection of vases, plates, and other things to stack to build your topary. Then use glue to stick them together.
Hi Maria, hope these inspire you.
