There are so many styles of china cabinets, and almost as many ways to repurpose.

In the 50's, my aunt and uncle lived in an old house with few closets. Each of their 4 kids had a 1920's-30's era china cabinet painted a cheery color for their clothes. The glass doors had figured woodwork, so they were already decorated. These were also used in various places throughout the house. Even as a kid, I thought this was a clever re-use, and the colors were a charming update. An art professor of mine used a simple old one painted a bright blue in his painting studio for his art supplies. It's purpose was obvious from the multi-colored smears and fingerprints.

If yours is wood & has doors you can use it as a pantry in the kitchen, for art, craft or tool storage, as an armoire for folded garments, linens, etc. You can choose to paint it and use a contrast color inside. For the glass in the doors, you could camouflage the contents with plain or patterned window film or fabric curtains. I currently have a huge breakfront that used to hold my dishes & pottery collection. Now, it's on it's way to store my fabric hoard with curtains on the inside of the glass doors. At one point I thought to use it as a linen/bathroom cabinet.

I hope you find a purpose for yours & enjoyed my trip down Memory Lane.
