Hello all, I've been saving my sons formula cans. They're just neat cans with lids. We go through 9 a month, and I just hate to throw them away. Any ideas on how to give them new life?

  • You could cover them with pretty paper and spray paint the lids. They could then be used to store things - craft supplies, No lid: desk organizer for scissors, pens, etc.

    (1) These would be great for groups that package Christmas Cookies or similar. They can be lined with plastic bags. Covered with Christmas wrapping paper. (2) Habitat for Humanity Restore in my community has loose nails and screw that you buy by the pound. These would be helpful for people to carry them home in, and maybe keep them in. (3) Great for packaging small breakables at a craft / white elephant bazaar.

Alot of schools use containers such as these for various projects and of course holders for pencils, paint brushes, etc.

Save some for your son’s little toys as he gets older. Cover with fabric to matech his room or play area. Perfect for LEGO, wooden beads, matchbox cars, action figures, etc. Easy to stack or store!

You can cover them with mactac (sticky paper)...I do this all the time. Lots of diff patterns to choose from...match what you want to use them as storage on kitchen cupboards (ie tea bags)

I love all of these ideas and the ones on Pinterest. Here’s another. I used wrapping paper to wrap around the outside. Cut a circle from a used greeting card that coordinates with the wrapping paper. add a pretty bow on top and you have a great ”gift bag” for any occasion ready to go!

I have been using the ones with the flip lid that my daughter gives me to turn into knitting/crochet wool holders, just drill a round hole in the centre of the flip lip and viola - I also turn some of them into money boxes for all the spare coins that we get again start by drilling a hole in the centre of the lid and then very carefully repeat process until you get the required 'money slot' size you want then carefully cut away any remaining plastic with a craft or Stanley knife and give a gentle sand to any rough edges - as the flip lids are green (Australian brand) I will paint the bases in a contrasting colour.

I cut bottoms off, bury them halfway deep in my garden. Plant tomatoes, etc in them, to keep away slugs, cutworms and earwigs!
