How to use an old crib mattress spring?

I have kept the springs out of an old crib mostly because they are hard to get rid of unless you have a truck. They are of course, the same size as the average crib mattress.

I keep thinking that I should use it for something in my garden but haven't quite got the vision. I have chain link fencing.

Any ideas?

You could use it as a trellis for a climbing rose or vine. You could use anything from clematis to honeysuckle for the vine. A Victorian house near me has an old iron bedstead set up in their garden with a sign, "Bed of Roses" and roses planted in the area where the mattress would be, and a climbing rose over the headboard.

  • Hi Ellis....Yes a trellis is an obvious choice. Was also opening it up to other innovative possibilities. I am somewhat eclectic and non traditional in my tastes. I have an Asian inspired structure and a Budette (with the bun, Buddha looks like a Budette) in my yard. Going for Zen.

I appreciate your interest and response. Thank you.

Trellis or to hold a bunch of small flower pots as stand up planter or line bottom & sides with landscapers fabric then fill with soil and plant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShNhzLsn_CQ

  • Hi Lynn,

The picture with the entire mattress springs in tact interests me the most. Thank you for the website.
