I plan to make this found wood into an art object.

I'm going to finish scraping off the surface parts that will flake off and spray it bronze or something similar and hang it on a wall. I will also cut off a few pieces that don't contribute to the overall design of it. There are two places (see close ups) where the wood has broken. I want to fasten them back together because they will help stabilize the piece. As you can see, one break has separated a lot as the wood has dried out. That one certainly cannot be glued together. I thought about attaching something sturdy to each of the ends (maybe some wire?) and then wrapping another wire to attach the two ends. That would be pretty easy to accomplish on the one that has just a small separation. Then, when I spray the whole thing with metallic paint, those repaired parts won't show much at all and can even seem like part of the design, especially if I also wrap some other areas to match.
Ideas or suggestions?

you could always wrap some moss around the wired break

But I'm going to spray it metallic so it looks like a sculpture.

I would dig out a piece inside the broken branches, insert a kabob stick cut down , this will stabilize the broken piece than wrap with surgery tape (cloth) then spray. Will not be so visiable

If you have a source for beautiful sticks, please Google "Chandeliers Made From Sticks"! You will be surprised at what you find! They are STUNNING! And so many seem like they would be easy to make. I have some rings that were on old hanging Tomato planters that would be perfect to use to make some such lights! Old Chandeliers are used too!

Great ideas, I have found sticks too! I love altered art projects and plan on many things with my sticks of all kinds. When I do something I will post! Smiles, Cyndi
