You could make a decorative mug hanger if you have it cut in half, paint it, mount it on the wall, and add hooks.

  • Cool piece! Any idea whether you wish to use it inside or in the garden? Would make a great statement piece on a blank wall along with other "found" interesting pieces if you need art somewhere.

Its a mid century awning post. Sand and spray paint with metal paint. Trellis for a vining plant. Hang potted plants on it. Attach hooks and a base for an entry way coat rack. Attach a base, get a light kit, lamp shade, and make a standing lamp. Cut it in half, attach wood boards to one of the bars, hang on the wall horizontally, and you have two shelves with decorative back. Please post what you do with it on Hometalk.

I would spray paint the piece and use it as a focal point in a garden.

Since you only have one trellis, cut it in 8 pieces, spray paint and make pretty candle holders? Don't forget they would need a bottom.......

Could you cut it in half and use it for your mailbox stand???? Add a Clematis to climb.......it is a beautiful perennial vine with huge flowers that bloom.

If you had a long wooden table you could cut down the middle of the table, making the hole long and wide enough you can lay your piece in it flat. Cover with a layer of glass or plexiglass. Think it would look very nice.

I like all of the above ideas for inside and outside. Can't wait to see which one you choose!

I think it would look great painted and hung vertically on an outside wall beside your front door. Of course, the size would have to be right.

Cut off the rails leaving the vines and curve to make a wall hanging. After painting of course!

All good ideas, would also make a great headboard, I would us it out side as a bench or accent piece, painted in your favorite color.

You could just stick it in the ground...and plant a vine..(black eyed susan vine) and let it grow up! Of course you'd have to tie it up as it grows..but would be so so pretty!!

I would leave it as is, gently brush off any loose pieces of paint metal etc. and cover with a clear coat finish. I would then frame it in oak adding frames for 8x10 family photos and feet for standing as a room divider. Or omit the feet and lean against a wall. Please post pictures of what ever you end up doing with it. There are a lot of great ideas here.

I like to dress up my big wooden garden gates with things such as this.

You could make a pot hanger out of it. Hang it horizontally on your fence. Lean it up against the house or wall. Sell it to a second hand place or antique store.
